We made a bank Reddit actually loved. It became one of the most enjoyed posts the community had ever seen.

Ally Financial is a challenger bank with no branches and no queues, built on a simple promise: your money should work smarter, not harder. But in a market where the big banks spend billions shouting the loudest, online banks hold less than 8% of America's deposits. To win hearts and minds, Ally couldn't just buy attention; it had to earn it, in the one place the internet actually lives.

Ally have a cult following on Reddit, so what better platform to plant our flag, making Ally the world's first bank to officially accept Reddit Gold. The Ally r/Bank let Redditors deposit their Gold, then deployed a cheeky little hack to hand back a highly-coveted Argentium award, worth more than 40x Gold, as interest on their investment. It was the deal of the century.

In just 72 hours, the Ally r/Bank traded its entire vault of Argentium, became the most Gold-awarded promoted post in Reddit's history (and the most Gold-awarded post outright on Reddit in all of 2020), and introduced the front page of the internet to Ally's smarter banking. Redditors crowned it “Reddit Coin Jesus,” “marketing genius,” and “the best trade deal in history.”
